Giant crane fly (Tipula abdominalis). If you include the legs it was approximately 5 inches in length, so definitely a fly of unusual size (FOUS). I've cropped the image to show how pretty the thorax is. #diptera #cranefly #flies #entomology #tipula #tipulidae #insects #nature

Sometimes I swear creatures understand us even if they can't speak or understand our language.
I was working in my studio when I saw a cranefly. I kept working but started talking to them about how it's a shame they became trapped inside and I should find a way to get them back outside where they'd be happy. As soon as I finished what I was doing they flew to me, landing on my shirt, and we went outside where they could fly free. #cranefly #creature #nature #life
