The museum's exhibition gallery tells the story of Belzec in detail (1), next to it is a dark and empty room for contemplation, which seems to be about the same size as the exhibition gallery (2).

The memorial itself can be reached via a path between high walls carved into the #burialSite (1). It ends with an overhang (2), which presents lists of #Jewish and #Polish first names embedded in the concrete. This symbolizes the fact that there are no official records of those #murdered.

The second painting (1) shows the burning of the #corpses on makeshift pyres built from parts of railroad tracks.
A replica of such a symbolic pyre can be seen on the site as part of the memorial (2).

The guide showed us two detailed #paintings created by a Polish railroad worker named Waclaw Kolodziejczyk. He created them with the help of oral accounts of what happened in the #camp, which he had heard from members of the so-called "Sonderkommando". These paintings are now in the archives of the church in #Belzec. The first painting (1) shows the layout of the camp, which was also shielded by a green wall of trees.

On day 3 of the #holocaustMuseum tour in #Poland, we visited the #museum and #memorialSite of the #BelzecExterminationCamp.

The tour began with the outdoor area and a visit to the museum.

Today, the site of the #exterminationCamp has been converted into a memorial where the ashes of the #victims are buried in around 30 pits.
