After millennia of spoken language, the best most people can manage is grunting. Shakespeare would be biting his quill in frustration.

Here my two cents about #deepseek news and public communications about it https://www.linkedin.com/posts/gabrielezago_my-two-cents-about-one-of-the-most-intriguing-activity-7290409298113798145-L_RB?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop

My two cents πͺ , about one of the most intriguing news of this week: "AI, Geopolitics, and the Danger of Superficial Narratives" Observing the recent βAI news battlesβ between the U.S. π¦ and China π² (and their geopolitical spheres), Iβm struck by how critical developments in AI and other disruptive innovations are often communicated with alarming superficiality, for sure in the Italian news arena. Topics that will shape our collective future - economical , social, and geopolitical - are reduced to oversimplified headlines. How, for instance, can media label DeepSeek-R1 as the work of an "unknown startup"? Or claim its development cost "onlyβ $6 million"? The speed of innovation in AI and other critical areas, coupled with theri global economic and cultural implications, demands nuanced public discourses. Yet entire nations and societies seem to struggle with even understanding these shifts, obviously I use myself as an example of this lack of knbowledge. Here, public communication as communication to the public and also for the public - not just media, but all stakeholders - bears a responsibility: to resist sensationalism, prioritize depth over clicks, and acknowledge diverse cultural and social perspectives. A recent conversation with colleagues (far sharper, young and talented than myself!) such Vasco D'Errico π₯ Guido Reggiori πΎ and Angela Ghosn π§ reinforced the importance of countering "tunnel vision", especially when reporting on complex technical fields or innovations from unfamiliar cultural contexts. For example, the story of DeepSeek-R1 (still largely opaque to meβIβve yet to read "their" academic papers) highlights three compelling themes, in my mind: π Open-source dynamics, π Investment in young talent, π A culture of entrepreneurial agility. These are priorities we should all champion also in the EU. Innovation, creativity, and nurturing talent arenβt optional - theyβre existential. And they require action, not just rhetoric. As the U.S. and China navigate their AI strategies, I hope thereβs still room to "unlock" collaborative, forward-thinking policies - ones that merge technical innovation with philosophical foresight. There is room for another way, that is still not present in the landscape. The stakes are too high for anything less. Note that the image is attached only to make some mess with totally differnet concept π Corrections and inspirations are well accepted!!! Susan Schuurman Andrea Cornelli
