A Wigwam for a Goose's Bridletime
Skipping lightlyover days of youth
and then,
all too soon,
etching lines of sorrow.
Boasting power
over the years.
An untamed dimension
beyond all control
of mortal beings
who watch it, wear it,
regret its passing,
spend it unwisely
and yet long for more.
From birth to grave
we are transported through life
as flotsam and jetsam
on the waves of time.
I thought I’d lost this! This was co-written with my mother in 2001 when I was having a meltdown over my English homework. Whilst it isn’t the first “poem” I ever wrote, this is the moment I realised poetry could be more than trite rhymes, nor did it have to be constrained to meter. This was the moment I fell in love.
