Armageddon over #Budapest.

Morning Phenomena: One Sky, Two Stories π
This morning hit different. Barefoot in the chill, standing between a fire-lit sunrise and... what looked like a ghost of a rainbow. No rain, no clouds thick enough to matter β just light bending like it had secrets to tell.
First shot: a blazing golden sky, like the horizon caught fire and the clouds hadnβt gotten the memo. Pure cinematic drama.
Second shot: a soft arc, almost shy, glowing pinkish-violet in a clear blue sky. No storm, no downpour... just ice crystals high in the atmosphere, playing prism.
Not a rainbow. A halo. Formed by sunlight refracting through tiny, hexagonal ice shards in the upper troposphere β Cirrus magic. No spectacle, no thunder... just perfect quiet physics doing its thing. And I love that. When science, beauty, and a bit of WTF all line up.
Because sometimes the sky doesnβt just shine... it winks back.
π Rainbow vs. Halo β not the same game:
Rainbows need rain β literally. Sunlight hits water droplets, gets bent and bounced around inside them, and splits into colors. Thatβs why rainbows are always opposite the sun and usually appear after or during a shower.
Halos? Totally different beast. No rain required. Just sunlight meeting microscopic ice crystals way up high β often in thin cirrus clouds you barely see. The light bends once as it passes through those crystals, forming elegant arcs, rings or spots of color... often subtle, sometimes surreal. They're rarer, quieter, and honestly? Sexier.
So next time you see a rainbow where thereβs no rain... look again. The sky might be showing off in other ways. π
