Sometime during this year, but 110 years ago, the coal-seam fire of Jharia in India started. After more than a century, it is still burning in maybe 70 different areas of that region of about 450 km².
It will continue for other centuries, probably. Just to remember that the major environmental disaster is not caused by nuclear plants, but coal, gas, and other hydrocarbons.

The Army Corps is halfway through a six-year risk management study with the city of Boston.

And I am reminded just how totally fucking bonkers it is that if we'd bought the pure petrol version of our car, instead of the plug-in hybrid version that we did buy, our car tax would have been vastly cheaper.
I don't mind doing my bit for the planet, but I do object to being punitively taxed for doing so.
