#Chicano residents of #SanDiego, CA, occupied the space beneath #CoronadoBridge on #ThisDayInHistory in 1970. Their #DirectAction led to the creation of #ChicanoPark, a site now on the National Register of Historic Places with the largest collection of outdoor #murals in the USA.
Chicano Park

Chicano Park is the geographic and emotional heart of Barrio Logan, located in Logan Heights, San Diego's oldest Mexican-American neighborhood. The park is home to the largest concentration of Chicano murals in the world, with more than 100 paintings on seven acres dotted with sculpture, gardens, picnic tables and playgrounds. Throughout the year, it hosts festivals of music and Aztec dance, the biggest being Chicano Park Day — held each April on the Saturday closest to April 22, the date of the park's beginnings. Additionally, Chicano Park is the hub of an emerging arts district, with galleries, boutiques, brew pubs and craft coffee shops nearby.

San Diego

It's officially confirmed. I'll be in San Diego, CA from February 23rd - March 2nd. The wife will be there as well for part of it. Here's how it breaks down.

February 23rd - February 26th is work stuff and I'll be there by myself except for the last part of the 26th which is when the wife flies in. This is for Skylight's "All-Feet" as they call it, which is an all company retreat.

February 27th - March 1st will be our time without any work related stuff happening.

March 2nd we fly back home.

March 1st also happens to be our wedding anniversary, so this all worked out perfectly and unexpectedly.

Definite things we're doing during "our time" are: visiting Chicano Park, as this is something the wife has wanted to do most of her life.

Visit Tijuana, Mexico, as she's hispanic and has never been to any part of Mexico, or out of the country in any way.

Go to the beach, or what looks like the bay. Another thing she's never seen or experienced is the Pacific Ocean, so this will be another first for her.

I'll also get to meet my former boss/employer, Kevin, the founder/creator of Nova, that I worked for and with for 9 years and who I currently work with at Skylight. That's right, he was my boss for 9 years and yet we've never met in person. So this will be a ton of fun.

Now we just need to come up with some really good restaurants to eat at, especially on Sunday March 1st, since that is our wedding anniversary. Looking for something super nice.
