David Bowie, Scary Monsters, 1980 on RCA Victor.

Bowie working with Tony Visconti, guests include Robert Fripp, Pete Townshend, Carlos Alomar, Andy Clark

Transitional album between the Berlin Trilogy and Let’s Dance. (I know some folks think of it as his last great album, and see LD as a falling off – I don’t, but do love this album).

Had this one since the early 80s so not sure where I picked it up

David Bowie, Lodger, 1979 on RCA Victor

Third album in the so-called Berlin trilogy (after Low and “Heroes”) in collaboration with Brian Eno and Tony Visconti. Recorded in Switzerland and New York city, and the first Bowie album to feature Adrian Belew alongside Carlos Alomar.

A remastered Lodger came out in 2017 as part of the box set A New Career In a New Town (1977-1982).

My copy—via the Worcester Record Riot—is an early 80s reissue for the European Market, on RCA International, pressed by Sonopress in Germany.

"Fame" is a song by the English singer-songwriter #DavidBowie. It was released on his 1975 album #YoungAmericans and was later issued as the album's second #single by #RCARecords in June 1975. Written by Bowie, #CarlosAlomar and #JohnLennon, it was recorded at #ElectricLadyStudios in #NewYorkCity in January 1975. It is a #funkRock song that represents Bowie's dissatisfaction with the troubles of fame and stardom.

David Bowie, Stage, 1978 on RCA

Bowie’s second live album, following 1974’s David Live. It’s a 2xLP release, drawing on concerts from Boston, Providence, and Philadelphia. Playing with Bowie here are Carlos Alomar, Dennis Davis, George Murray, Adrian Belew, Simon House, Roger Powell, and Sean Mayes. (In essence the group that would be on Lodger).

Got criticized at the time for lacking the sense of a live album – there’s little audience noise and there are fade outs between tracks. There’s also just one photo used on the front, rear, and inside gatefold in different crops/treatments – not exactly deluxe packaging!

I’m something of a Bowie completist, but this would be one I think any Bowie fan would appreciate – stuff from Station to Station, Low, and “Heroes” but also still tracks from Ziggy.

My copy is a 1978 pressing from RCA’s Indianapolis plant, via A1 Records in NYC
