Bottle Lake May 1st to 3rd Trip report.

Ice was out but still COLD!

Took it slow and kept close to shore as my brother is not the most comfortable in a canoe and neither of us wanted an upset.

Got to a beautiful campsite and posted up. Some winter campers had left a snow stake and some bucked firewood. Still wet but saved much work!

The wind was cold and there was snow at times. Wore most of my clothing to bed each night!

The trade off to the cold? No flying bugs! My brother did get a tick, and we used a tick key to get it out. TIL that ticks are active above 2c and since there were no flying bugs, we didn't bug spray up for a hike up to the lookout.

All in all, good first 2 night trip of the season and looking forward to more!

This weekend’s walk was along the bank of the river Tryweryn, near Bala, popular with canoists and white-water enthusiasts, hence the UK’s National White-water Centre is here. We had a hot drink afterwards in the cafe, alongside some canoists. I’ve never been sporty myself, but admire the youngsters who love the challenge, and of course these (mostly bearded-types) young men who seem just to love being in water, and the chance to prove their physical prowess. (sorry, no shots of any of them)
