Aber es gibt viele flugunfähige inselbewohnende Arten, die räumlich sehr begrenzt leben. Viele von ihnen sind inzwischen ausgestorben oder vom Aussterben bedroht. Seen sind Wasserinseln auf dem Land, auch hier gibt es flugunfähige Vögel wie den kleinen Junin-Taucher, der als Endemit auf dem Junin-See in Peru lebt.
