I had an interesting experience this morning after dropping off my brood at school. I decided to go have breakfast at a diner I frequent every couple of weeks for my protein infused hash browns and #coffee. The manager recognized me and sat me down. In the space of 30-ish minutes, the server:
- knocked off the toast they placed on the edge of the table onto the floor and didn't replace it
- Refilled my $4 coffee once
- Took 20 minutes to pick up my cc to process the check while chatting up/flirting with the cooks (which I heard)
- Complained loudly to the manager about my 10% tip while I was still there and at my table
The manager came over and asked if everything was ok, and I shared the poor service tale. The manager offered to comp the meal, and I told them absolutely not as the food was good and that I wasn't looking for freebees. They understood and instead comped the coffee and promised to have a long discussion with the server about their customer service skills. Fair enough.
I'm a pretty laidback and understanding person, but my god that experience tested my patience.
