I had an interesting experience this morning after dropping off my brood at school. I decided to go have breakfast at a diner I frequent every couple of weeks for my protein infused hash browns and #coffee. The manager recognized me and sat me down. In the space of 30-ish minutes, the server:

  • knocked off the toast they placed on the edge of the table onto the floor and didn't replace it
  • Refilled my $4 coffee once
  • Took 20 minutes to pick up my cc to process the check while chatting up/flirting with the cooks (which I heard)
  • Complained loudly to the manager about my 10% tip while I was still there and at my table

The manager came over and asked if everything was ok, and I shared the poor service tale. The manager offered to comp the meal, and I told them absolutely not as the food was good and that I wasn't looking for freebees. They understood and instead comped the coffee and promised to have a long discussion with the server about their customer service skills. Fair enough.

I'm a pretty laidback and understanding person, but my god that experience tested my patience.

So my partner was waiting for their new SIM card before work today. Old plan is no longer active, new one starts today. Kinda needs it.

We’re both sitting at home, in relative quiet. There’s a ping. A failed delivery notification. Nobody called on the apartment.

Checking the photo, it’s a whole other building.

Of course, the postal service itself isn’t contactable. Even if it were, they’d usually palm you off with “well you can pick it up tomorrow”.

I don’t understand that. Like I *know* it would cost more to fix it but… it’s your mess? Ya know? Like, you hired someone who isn’t doing the job - the ‘customer’ shouldn’t have to suffer for that.

Of course, if you don’t listen to customers then you don’t know that it’s not working

So the "extras" by way of apology was actually less than we ordered.

When we spoke to Mangrove at 20:10. They said it would be 30 mins (it was 2hrs).

But the person on the phone promised they'd speak to the manager (!) about adding some "extras" to our order.

When we received it, just after 10pm, we got our order, plus three poppadoms.

The meals were also cold.

It's a fucking insult.

The restaurant haven't been taking calls for over an hour.

On the one occasion we spoke to them, we asked if it would definitely only be 30mins, cos we have a child waiting to eat.

Clearly, children go to bed hungry at Mangrove.

At 18:30, we ordered a takeaway from Mangrove in Westhoughton. At 20:10, when the expected delivery time had passed, we rang the restaurant to chase our order.

Their chef was off (not our problem) and they promised it would be here in 30 mins.
