AI is intensifying a 'collapse' of trust online, experts say

For years, people could largely trust, at least instinctively, that seeing was believing.

Prediction: With each month,
"AI" will produce less and less
coherent results, and the AI costs
will increase. The reason is that
"AI" doesn't "know" the world but
extracts words from human chats and
summaries but there are less and
less human chats and summaries;
so "AI" will loop-feed its own
mistakes.

‘I just see what’s happening to young people and the kind of content AI is creating. It’s taking out the humanity and we’re getting further from the truth. You wonder why people are anxious and depressed, and it’s because not everything that they’re seeing is meant to be digested. It’s junk food for the brain. It’s not real. It’s not attainable. It creates a great sense of isolation.’

I’m still not sure what’s worse.

That ‘AI’¹ needs unfathomable amounts of energy, single-handedly bringing back nuclear power, and perverse amounts of cooling liquid, draining the fresh water reserves of small towns²?

That ‘AI’ keeps being trained by data sources the creators of which never agreed on being used this way³?

That ‘AI’ needs to be stripped of terrible, toxic content by human beings living in the Global South who have to endure perversion, aggression, and any *ism you might imagine, and who are paid for this torture obscenely low wages⁴?

Or that ‘AI’ tends to make people stupider⁵ and learners lazier⁶?

In any case, avoid any form of ‘AI’ like the plague it is.

I know there are zillions of rubbish Facebook posts with garbage legalese in them purporting to stop FB using your data. However, I think this article is kosher and useful, if you use Facebook.
At the end it explains how to actually message Meta and tell them not to use your public data for AI training.

Posting ‘Goodbye Meta AI’ is pointless. But we can stop big tech stealing our Facebook pictures

Sharing these posts may seem harmless, but don’t be drawn in. There are better ways to combat the threats to our data, says technology writer Chris Stokel-Walker

C’mon, moz://a — really?

“Firefox Suggest now features Fakespot results to help you find high-quality and relevant products while searching. Fakespot uses AI to detect reviews that are more likely to be untrustworthy, so you can shop with more confidence.”

Who asked for that? I certainly didn’t.

Recommendation: Switch all the suggestions off by going to
about:config,
confirm that you’ll be careful,
enter browser.urlbar.suggest
and set all the results to false.

Also, you might want to deactivate the “rich search” from the url bar.
Again, go to
about:config,
confirm,
enter rich
and set browser.urlbar.richSuggestions.featureGate and browser.urlbar.richSuggestions.tail to false, browser.urlbar.maxRichResults to 0 (zero).

The magic url param to avoid (not sure how much of) the AI overlay crap on Google is:

&udm=14

e.g.: https://www.google.co.za/search?hl=en&q=test&btnG=Search&udm=14

Plug that into your browser's url shortcuts or whatever.
