"The icon of beauty:" Apollo Belvedere restored and unveiled at Vatican

The Wild Hunt

Your art history post for today: Girl at a window overlooking St. Mark's Square, feeding pigeons, c. 1875, by Anton Romako (1832-1889), oil on wood, 28x22 cm, Belvedere Museum, Vienna. #arthustory #art

From the website: “Through an open window, we, like the elegantly dressed young lady, look directly at St. Mark's Basilica with its large dome, elegant arches and filigree turrets. To the right of it, a section of the striking facade of the Doge's Palace can also be seen. In this small painting, Anton Romako combines Venice's magnificent central building and the pigeons that characterize the cityscape with the portrait of a girl. After his training in Vienna and Munich, the artist traveled through Europe for several years from 1854 onwards, spending a longer period of time in Venice. In 1857, he moved to Rome for the next twenty years. From there, he repeatedly visited the lagoon city to depict the picturesque life in pointed, small-format depictions.”

#QTStudio #collage #acrylic #glitter what you can’t see in the photo is the subtle glint of #dichroic glitter in the top half. One of the things I enjoy about making physical art is to add aspects that do not translate outside of in person experience of the work. Photos never see the work as the naked eye will. Digital images by their very nature of pixelisation reduce information and experience. #ArtHustory #historigraphy #aesthetics
