I was worried about incautious use of 'genAI' tools/LLMs by #IPCC #AR7 authors. After seeing this, I'm convinced we're on track for a disaster:

For context, the authors here include a Vice-Chair of IPCC Working Group III (that assesses knowledge about how to stop climate change) and other authors selected to lead writing of parts of the next major report.

It seems pretty elementary that it would be antithetical to the #IPCC mission for authors to be use “generative AI” in the #AR7 climate change assessment cycle.

Thus far I've seen neither bottom-up (eg. pledges from authors) nor top-down (eg. guidance from WG and higher chairs) actions that evince this awareness.

OTOH I *have* caught wind, at least 3 times, of people suggesting it could be used e.g. for literature review, and I'm worried that these mistakes will go unchecked.
