Spring is in the air, it is on the ground, and it is showing up on winter deciduous trees.

This cluster shows a still leafless Himalayan Birch (Betula alnoides) full of yellow catkins, the other taller trees are Himalayan Alder (Alnus nepalensis) which have new leaves & leaf buds. The dark evergreen trees are Tree Rhododendron (Rhododendron arboreum).

Altså, nå på slutten av 40-åra må jeg vel ha blitt det. Middelaldrende.
Da kan jeg sikkert forberede meg på renessansen, kanskje til og med bli opplyst? Ikke helt sikker på om det fungerer slik, men en kan jo satse på det.

I am seriously considering starting a mushroom farm. I could maybe get enough alder logs from local arborists, if not I could contact the borough parks and rec(who are responsible for maintaining most borough properties), the local Native corporation, or I could invest in a chipper and do buckets from shoots and branches, if I am really desperate I could ask the forest service for a commercial permit to harvest(its alder. nobody wants alder. maybe they would let me?).
I would only need a couple of trees per year and these things grow like weeds. It is the least hardwood hardwood. Most of the time it has mushrooms growing on it before it dies.

Young fresh leaves of green alder (Alnus alnobetula, Grün-Erle)
Alnus alnobetula is a fast-growing, nitrogen-fixing shrub found in subalpine and boreal regions. It plays a key ecological role by stabilizing slopes, enriching poor soils through symbiosis with nitrogen-fixing bacteria (Frankia), and providing early cover in disturbed areas. Its dense thickets offer habitat and shelter for wildlife, while its leaves and catkins contribute to forest floor nutrient cycling.
