In October I did a pilgrimage to Alan Hull's memorial plaque in front of City Hall in #Newcastle. Alan Hull was the primary songwriter in the band #Lindisfarne. Unfortunately he passed away at the age of fifty. He has been dead now for thirty years. I have never had the chance to see him play. In my opinion he's one of the best songwriters of all time, and a humanist at heart. Take a moment to listen to Winter Song, recorded in that building shortly before he passed https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mt3u2YkLXQQ Long live #alanhull
Today’s listening is ‘Squire’, the 1975 album by Alan Hull.
Alan Hull was a founding member of the band Lindisfarne and, after they broke up in 1973, he released this, his second solo album.
For me this album is something of a curate’s egg. There are some good songs with strong melodies, but the hodge-podge of musical styles diminishes the album overall.
Worth checking out though!
