Adelaide claimed bragging rights in Showdown 57 with a gritty five point win over Port Adelaide in front of a sold-out Adelaide Oval on Saturday night, thanks in large part to a stunning burst of brilliance from Izak Rankine in the final term. Rankine’s pair of quick goals midway through the fourth quarter gave the Crows just enough breathing room to edge out the Power 13.11 (89) to 12.12 (84), in a clash that saw momentum swing wildly all night and in the most competitive round of AFL or VFL footy since at least 1970.
The Fremantle Dockers bounced back from a surprise loss to the Melbourne Demons to overcome the Adelaide Crows in Perth. The ANZAC Day (similar to Memorial Day in the USA) night match placed both teams in the national spotlight with the Dockers finding their passion to overcome the high flying Crows. The Crows had beaten the talented Greater Western Sydney Giants the previous week in a hard slog at Adelaide Oval and needed to backup their win to prove they were a threat to the competition. However, after a roasting from the local media and their coach, Justin Longmuir, the Dockers were never going to let this one slip. The home team started hot and burned the Adelaide Crows with a first term burst of aggressive hard-running football, which set up the victory that followed. Played in fine autumn conditions, the pace was ferocious with both teams using handball to clear packs and long kicking to launch attacks.
Brook Kilpatrick braved the rain and filed a report on the Crows win over the Giants in Adelaide. Read it here:

The Adelaide Crows have claimed a significant victory in wet and scrappy conditions at Adelaide Oval on Saturday afternoon, defeating the GWS Giants by 18 points in a low-scoring contest. The game was more of an arm wrestle than the expected spectacle, but the Crows managed to snap a two-game losing streak and move into fifth spot on the ladder with a 4-2 record—equal with the fourth-placed Giants. The clash was far from pretty, dominated by turnovers and heavy rain midway through the third quarter. At halftime, both teams had recorded turnovers well above the league average, heavily impacting the scoring efficiency at both ends. Despite the messiness, Adelaide's constant pressure proved to be the difference in the end.
Crows AFLW Premiership coach Matthew Clarke has announced he is stepping down after the upcoming 2025 season.

The Adelaide Crows have continued their perfect start to the 2025 season with an impressive 36-point victory over a plucky North Melbourne at picture-perfect Adelaide Oval on Sunday. The three-pronged Crows attack proved too strong for the young Kangaroos with veteran Taylor Walker leading the way with four timely goals alongside Darcy Fogarty (two goals) and the rapidly improving Riley Thilthorpe who added three goals of his own. The loss for the Kangaroos extended their losing streak to twelve in a row at Adelaide Oval though there was plenty to like from Alistair Clarkson’s men as they crept to within eight points during the third quarter, however they failed to press further as the Crows regained control with young guns Sid Draper (activated when Josh Rachele left the field with injury) and Dan Curtain providing a real spark for the home team.
