Quoting Yarn Spinner: “AI companies make tools for hurting people and we don’t want to support that.”

The team behind Yarn Spinner (also known for authoring books on machine learning) have stopped using #AI entirely. Not because they don’t understand it, but because they do. They watched the industry pivot from interesting technical problems to one clear goal: firing people or extracting more work without hiring anyone to help.

Every time you adopt these tools, you financially support companies whose business model is workforce reduction during a time when unemployment can be life-threatening.

The question isn’t whether AI is technically impressive. It’s whether the companies making it deserve our money and support while they’re actively working to eliminate jobs. Yarn Spinner decided they don’t.

Why We Don't Use AI | Yarn Spinner

We get asked about AI a lot. Whether we’re going to add it to Yarn Spinner, whether we use it ourselves, what we think about it. Fair questions. Time to write it all down. Yarn Spinner doesn’t use the technology that’s currently being called AI. We don’t have generative AI features in the product, and we don’t use code generation tools to build it, and we don’t accept contributions we know contain generated material. Let’s talk about why.

😆 Apparently, the Yarn Spinner team wants us to know they're such #nonconformists that they reject AI like it's last season's fashion. 🤖👜 They're so forward-thinking, they've scheduled their innovation for... 2026. Because nothing says cutting-edge like proudly sticking to manual labor in the age of AI. 🤦‍♂️

I fear having a jam that runs for like 2 weeks is giving me too much time to add absolute nonsense to the game... #gamejam @[email protected] #tasjam2025 #yarnspinner #godot
my weird little dungeon therapy game for @[email protected] #TasJam2025 is shaping up! (video has creepy sound) #godot #yarnspinner #gamedev #gamejam

Continuing on my #YarnSpinner script interpreter in #Godot. I've managed to get each line of a file into tokens, so now it's kind of processing each like a command line argument in bash?

This shit is weird. But also weirdly satisfying.

First time trying to make a script interpreter, it's a pretty gnarly process but kind of cool. #dev #gamedev #godot #YarnSpinner
