Après des décennies de surexploitation et de pollution, le Yangtsé amorce un spectaculaire redressement écologique depuis l’interdiction de la pêche en 2021.
Symbole de ce renouveau : le marsouin aptère du #Yangtsé. Sa population est passée de 445 individus en 2017 à près de 600 en 2022.

Dicen que en las aguas profundas del río Yangtsé habita un ser que no pertenece a este mundo: el Hombre Pez.
Nadie sabe exactamente cuándo aparece, pero los pescadores antiguos cuentan que se deja ver justo cuando la corriente se vuelve extrañamente silenciosa, como si el río contuviera la respiración.
Se dice que fue un hombre que, siglos atrás, desafió a los dioses del agua, pescando más allá de los límites sagrados y robando peces de los templos flotantes.
Como castigo, su cuerpo se transformó: mitad humano, mitad pez, y su mirada quedó hambrienta y vacía, capaz de arrastrar a cualquiera que se atreviera a mirar directamente a sus ojos.
Los que lo han visto relatan mareos, sensación de frío intenso y un miedo paralizante que los hace perder el rumbo.
Algunos desaparecen para siempre, otros vuelven al pueblo sin palabras, con la certeza de que algo antiguo y hambriento los ha marcado.
Se dice que si te acercas demasiado al agua y escuchas un susurro debajo de la superficie, es su llamada:
una advertencia o quizá un engaño para arrastrarte a su mundo líquido y silencioso.

The global flood risk urges an improved understanding of flood magnitude and its mechanism, which needs insights from pre-instrumental flood investigations. Due to data scarcity, reconstructing pre-instrumental flood magnitudes relies on statistical downscaling, failing to capture nonlinear and dynamic characteristics. We developed a dynamical approach, NorESM-WRF-SWAT, integrating a global climate, a regional, and a hydrologic model to investigate the 1931 Yangtze River flood (the deadliest in the world) and compared it with the 1998’s. Through validation, our method outperforms the statistical method in simulating precipitations and river discharges. For the first time, we presented detailed insights into the intensity and duration of the 1931 flood, revealing a smaller magnitude but associated with an amplified loss, likely due to social vulnerability and reduced societal resilience compared to the 1998’s. While successful simulation can be interfered with by model variability, our dynamical method shows promise for simulating pre-instrumental flood and building a long-term pre-instrumental-hydrology database.
