Deputies in TOPD’s Vulnerable Populations unit know each of the city’s ~230 homeless residents on a first-name basis. In my ride-along with them today, I witnessed not only the deputies’ compassion and skill in learning residents’ needs but also the way they coordinate with various other agencies to address those needs.

The city’s response to homelessness will get a big boost tomorrow with the ribbon cutting at the Thrive Grove Navigation Center, which will use tiny homes to provide temporary shelter. Large-scale encampments are now a thing of the past, but the work continues on finding shelter and services for everyone, including those still living in arroyos and cars.

Houston ISD to reduce number of staffers who help students meet basic needs

Amidst budget constraints and an overhaul of how it provides non-academic services, HISD is cutting back on campus-level wraparound resource specialists, who essentially serve as school social workers to help students with unmet needs such as food, clothing and healthcare. Nearly 80% of the district's 183,000-plus students are considered economically disadvantaged.

Today I took a relative to the Psychiatric Urgent Care at Sheppard Pratt, outside Baltimore. Worth the long drive. Can’t sing enough praises for this place… What an amazing concept! She was provided with choices; left feeling empowered and hopeful for the first time in a long time. Highly recommend #MentalHealth #Outreach #WrapAroundServices
