I met a number of Afghans & Uyghurs at #cinemaForPeace #worldSummit this week, and (as with Saudi & Russian stories) very struck that if you are activist abroad, your family and friends are disappeared, tortured, killed. This isn't courage in the classic self-sacrifice sense we associate with war and emergency services. This is the horror of autocracy and totalitarianism, and why we have to defend human rights for absolutely everyone.
