“Hope” is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all,

And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.

I’ve heard it in the chillest land,
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.

“I wonder if the sap is stirring yet,
If wintry birds are dreaming of a mate,
If frozen snowdrops feel as yet the sun
And crocus fires are kindling one by one:
Sing, robin, sing;
I still am sore in doubt concerning Spring.”

I like that they translated #womenpoets of the #beatgeneration in French but I'm glad they chose to do so in a bilingual version because despite the quality of the work that was done I feel limited by the mandatory #translation choices #poets #poetry

Ars Poetica April 5

For though I had not written
in a score of days,
the pen seemed to have
a life of its own as I wrote
in a complete haze.

Poetry flowed loosely
from my mind as if I had
breached a dam at last.

the pen and I were
joined as one,
and I myself
found poetry done.

Outside of a Cat

"Who among us hasn’t played the game

of naming that which we cannot touch

of supposing fibrous wisp to be torso /

tiger / palace shifting across pure palette

of sky / loneliness or love or pride

called out in thin disguise?"

won't you celebrate with me
-Lucille Clifton

won’t you celebrate with me
what i have shaped into
a kind of life? i had no model.
born in babylon
both nonwhite and woman
what did i see to be except myself?
i made it up
here on this bridge between
starshine and clay,
my one hand holding tight
my other hand; come celebrate
with me that everyday
something has tried to kill me
and has failed.
