John Gibson Paton, a Presbyterian missionary to Vanuatu, complains of mistreatment of the local people by foreign exporters of natural resources from the island. He says the locals were robbed, silenced with the musket. The murderers were comfortable enough to boast (apparently to Paton) of how they had dispatched the people.
