Last week, I posted one of my favorite records of the past 15 years in Wild Beasts’ Present Tense.

Today, I found THIS beautiful gem in a “Reduced For Clearance” bin, and I could not be more siked about it.

This is the debut solo album from Beasts frontman Hayden Thorpe, which was released in 2019. These songs have the same kind of magic that the songs on Present Tense had for me.

The album’s opening title track is absolutely beautiful, and from there, it’s steady as she goes.

Excellent well-written songs, produced to perfection, all anchored by what I feel is one of the most unique, incredible, and UNDER APPRECIATED voices of the past few decades.

Awesome find.

Any time is a great time for this.

Present Tense is legit one of my favorite records of the last 20 years, and I instantly fell in love with it upon my very first listen back in ‘14.

Although I was very saddened to hear that they were breaking up in 2018, I can’t be too sad.
They gave us a handful of great records during their run, including THIS masterpiece.

Here, the song arrangements and vocal performances are so great.
“Mecca” is a song that stirs my soul the same way every time I hear it.

Present Tense is a record I explore over and over again, and I find something new in it EVERY time.

Not sure how this album is viewed across the pond where they’re from, but it’s of the most criminally underrated masterpieces ever where I’M from.
I will die on that hill.
