What is the point of a #dishwasher if you need to #clean the #dishes before you put them in?

The cats often hang out nearby when I do dishes, and I always wonder what they think I'm doing. They know the kitchen contains food. But since cats don't wash dishes or use dishes other than their bowls, and none of them know English as far as we know, I can't even discuss it with them.
