Houte entend faire le tour d’une question assez délaissée par l’historiographie : l’antimilitarisme. Pari ambitieux et qui, à n’en pas douter, trouvera sa place dans maintes bibliographies mais si, pour être parfaitement honnête, il peine à complètement convaincre du fait d’une approche conceptuelle sans doute trop brouillonne.

There is a subset of War Studies, War Termination, that looks at how wars end, which I discovered after reading your post.
Wars often end through demonstrations of force in battle that lead to negotiations or outright surrender - and that can come through more weapons.
Increasingly there are attempts to reach a negotiated peace without that - but they require both sides to have good faith.
An excellent article for beginners, veterans, or anyone even remotely interested in #strategy.

Strategy is a popular but frequently misunderstood and mis-used term. When broken down to its fundamental however, the term strategy is all about the attempt to be effective. What this entails in practice is more complicated than it sounds. The principles of strategic theory can, though, help us reach some provisional conclusions about what it means to be efficacious.
