The juxtaposition in the BBC report on the Ukrainian war just now was pretty stark.
First, footage of a destroyed Russian convoy of military vehicles inside Russian territory. Cut away, with the anchor saying, "Meanwhile, Russia has attacked a supermarket in the Ukrainian region of Donetsk."
A microcosm of the two sides' strategic approaches during this conflict.
The emergence of tiresome oh-so-wise critics of the west's support for Ukraine as their fate worsens (due largely to US Republicans' efforts) is as predictable as it is loathsome.
Simon Jenkins should get quite completely in the bin for going along with it.

Today marks the 10 year anniversary of Russia's incursion into Ukraine.
Not to excuse the US Republicans who are rightly being blamed for the current holdup on support, but man, with hindsight, we really should have rallied to support the Ukrainians to a far greater degree than we did way back then.
I'm sold. Send Ukraine every single DPICM round in the US arsenal.
A harrowing but necessary read. With dwindling support and supply from the west, and a nightmare looming for them due to the conduct of US Republicans, Ukrainians' resolve and fighting spirit is still an inspiration.
"If you think that after all this we are looking forward to a cease-fire, you are dead wrong."
God, I wish we could do more.

Russian troops are pressing on Ukrainian forces along much of the front, including in the Zaporizhzhya region, where Kyiv’s counteroffensive halted last year. Soldiers stationed in the area for over 17 months are fighting to hold the line amid mounting problems from morale to a shortage of shells.
