A joy just to hear his voice on the radio (his Texas twang was definitely not your typical accent-from-nowhere NPR voice), but his reportage was even better.

Between 1994 and 2015 I lived in Texas a total of seventeen years. Suffice it to say, it's not my favorite state. I can think of three great things that have come from Texas: my labrador retrievers, Blue Bell ice cream, and Wade Goodwyn. When I heard of Wade's death, I felt like I'd lost a member of my family.
Rest in peace, #WadeGoodwyn.
Remembering Wade Goodwyn — on the radio, on the golf course or on a camel’s back 📻
📻 "If his voice pulled you in, his way with words kept you listening. For instance, this memorable line from his coverage of Hurricane Rita in 2005:
"In Louisiana, you hug your NASCAR teddy bear when the big blow comes, even if you're a barrel-chested National Guardsman."
