Happy 35th Anniversary to the #VeniceCommission! 🎉
Congratulations on an astonishing record of impact.
This unique #CouncilOfEurope institution, which is complementary to mine, is needed more than ever as we see efforts to unravel the #RuleofLaw.
We must protect its achievements and equip it to engage with rapidly changing societies - from #AGI to the #climatecrisis.
Member states should strongly support this unique global institution!

Great to be in Venice! I outlined my four priorities and how the #CoE Venice Commission and my office serve as complementary #HumanRights actors. While they develop the legal standards, I focus on seeing the law applied and honoured on the ground.

Advancements in Estonian #evoting controversy:

1) Cybersecurity committee of the Academy of Sciences published a "risk analysis for Estonian voting technologies" https://www.akadeemia.ee/en/events/conference-on-trust-and-reliability-2024/

2) Vice-President of parliament requested an assessment of #InternetVoting from OSCE #ODIHR and #VeniceCommission https://eerk.ee/vice-president-of-estonian-parliament-requests-an-opinion-from-osce-in-cooperation-with-the-estonian-nationalists-and-conservatives/

Academy committee was led by CSO of #Cybernetica, the local e-voting monopoly since 2004, and the Vice-President represents the whole parliamentary opposition. What next?

Pole väga keeruline ära arvata, mida OSCE ja Veneetsia komisjon võiks pöördumisele e‑hääletuse õigusraamistiku kohta vastata, sest soovimatus valimisekspertide soovitusi kuulda võtta on olnud läbiv viie üksikraporti puhul eri aastatest ja nad ise soovisid veebruaris, et "küsitaks neilt ühist arvamust Veneetsia komisjoniga meie valimisseadusele" -- ilmselt selleks, et oma senised etteheited terviklikumalt kokku võtta. https://objektiiv.ee/intervjuu-andres-aule-riigikogu-peaks-olema-huvitatud-e-valimiste-rahvusvahelisest-auditist/ #ehääletus #õigusraamistik #venicecommission
INTERVJUU ⟩ Andres Aule: riigikogu peaks olema huvitatud e-valimiste rahvusvahelisest auditist - Objektiiv

Riigikogu peaks olema siiralt huvitatud sellest, kuidas hindavad e-valimisi erapooletud rahvusvahelised vaatlejad, tõdes Objektiivile antud intervjuus erakonna Eesti Rahvuslased ja Konservatiivid (ERK) juhatuse liige Andres Aule, kommenteerides ühtlasi selle autorina OSCE-le esitatud pöördumise sisu.

Pöördumine e‑hääletuse õigusraamistiku kohta on juba aseesimehe allkirjaga Veneetsia komisjoni poole teele läinud, aga Riigikogu ikka veel arutab, kas pöördumist ette näinud eelnõu #425pe menetlemisel eksiti #rkkts §95 lg 2, 3 või mõlema vastu -- ja tulemuseks võib olla, et juba teele saadetud pöördumine hääletatakse järgmistel nädalatel igaks juhuks veelkord üle. https://stenogrammid.riigikogu.ee/202409181400#SND-31462612 #ehääletus #õigusraamistik #venicecommission

🐴 #CoE and other international legal standards have clearly been breached by using #Pegasus for political purposes, said rapporteur @PieterOmtzigt in the #PACE debate on the report about the use of #spyware in Europe, #Nepszava reports.
The document has been adopted on Wednesday. They call countries to refrain from using Pegasus-type software until their laws on secret surveillance meet the requirements of the #ECHR . #PACE would leave the assessment of this to the #VeniceCommission
