A few small private schools in the Houston area are among the Texas institutions with the lowest measles vaccination rates, according to data compiled by the Texas Department of State Health Services.

Nearly 160 measles cases have been reported in West Texas this year, with 22 of those people requiring hospitalization and an unvaccinated child dying in late February. There have been two unrelated measles cases in Houston.
A child who was not vaccinated has died from measles in West Texas, the first death in an outbreak that began late last month and the first from measles in the U.S. since 2015.
