Today's #VRBPAC meeting on #Covid vaccines was a little unusual. The only vote was a no-brainer. On the more challenging question — should the vaccine strain be updated — they were of mixed minds, with some worrying an update might trigger new testing requirements. https://www.statnews.com/2025/05/22/fda-advisory-panel-split-on-whether-agency-should-require-updates-of-covid-19-vaccine/
FDA advisory panel split on whether agency should require updates of Covid-19 vaccine

Some members of the Vaccines and Related Biologics Products Advisory Committee worried that a strain change would require new testing that could delay delivery of vaccines for the fall.

FDA cancels advisory committee meeting on flu vaccine strain selection

#HHS has canceled the March meeting of outside experts who were to advise #FDA on what next winter's #flu shots should target. The irony of this: Canceling #VRBPAC makes the US more reliant on the WHO-led strain selection process. https://www.statnews.com/2025/02/26/fda-cancels-vaccine-advisory-committee-meeting/

This will also impacts FDA's #VRBPAC committee meeting.

If he does not disband the committee and only replaces members, it will likely still require updating or more likely creating new presentations that meet his personal views. And that will take more than another month.

Doing this of course destroys the credibility of the committee and its products.

He is likely to prohibit mRNA vaccines entirely.

Moderna and Pfizer will create new vaccines for other countries. Just not in the US
