The Ryzen X3D processors with 3D V-Cache for some core complex dies (CCDs) but not all can now have a bias set under #Linux whether it should be optimized for frequency mode or cache mode. When the 3D V-Cache optimizer driver is set to frequency mode, cores with the faster CCD are prioritized over the larger cache but lower clocked CCD.

#Broadwell’s #eDRAM: VCache before #VCache was Cool
Broadwell’s limited #2013 desktop release is interesting because it came with 128 MB of eDRAM L4 cache. Broadwell couldn’t act as a high performance flagship, but #Intel took opportunity to go for high #iGPU performance. Even better, L4 could serve #CPU cores too. That meant Intel had a large cache on a desktop CPU, nearly 7 years before AMD launched the Ryzen 7 5800X3D with vertically stacked cache to give 96 MB of L3.

They compare #Zen 5 variants along with a pile of older cores with clock speed taken out of the equation as much as possible. That means capping clock speeds on all CPUs to the lowest clocking chip. In this case, that’s the #3GHz Athlon II X2 651.
Desktop Zen 5 takes a healthy 20.8% lead over #Zen4 in the most comparable configuration. #VCache gives Zen 4 96 MB of L3 cache which shrinks Zen 5’s lead to a still significant 16.6%.
