#Broadwell’s #eDRAM: VCache before #VCache was Cool
Broadwell’s limited #2013 desktop release is interesting because it came with 128 MB of eDRAM L4 cache. Broadwell couldn’t act as a high performance flagship, but #Intel took opportunity to go for high #iGPU performance. Even better, L4 could serve #CPU cores too. That meant Intel had a large cache on a desktop CPU, nearly 7 years before AMD launched the Ryzen 7 5800X3D with vertically stacked cache to give 96 MB of L3.
