VCF East and Maker Faire Make For a Busy Weekend
While I started using Macintosh computers in 1984 and often used them at home, college and work over the years, I've never owned one (the one at home was my dad's who lugged it home from work).
Until this weekend, courtesy of the free pile from #vcfEast. Here it is separated by 4 inches and 23 years from an Apple IIe. It's weird to me that both of these still work (dead battery for the Macbook Core Duo, otherwise still boots - not bad for a 20 year old laptop). With 32bit support in Linux going away soonish, I'll be installing the most current distro possible so I can get some fun out of this machine. Probably LMDE? We'll see.
Some cool stuff from this weekend's VCF East. The Retro Tech Foundation (hπt
tps://www.retrotechfoundation.org/ ) set up a booth that has the perfect recreation of a picture of Steve Jobs at one of the assembly spaces for the original Apple 1. Everything was reproduced down to the finest details. You could have your picture taken right there. Very cool :)

As I was leaving #VCFEast, I saw a lot of cop cars on my way out. Anyone know what happened?
Edit: just learned what happened
Some little shite called in a bomb threat to VCF East and the place got cleared by armed police Camp Evans is fully evacuated and the bomb squad has been called in. #RetroComputing #vcfeast2026
Saw this Coleco Adam with keyboard and printer (which is also the power supply) for just $50 earlier today, but I simply do not have the space for it. Someone later bought it for $25, which is a great deal if it can be brought back to life.
A neat and weird machine.
