After coming back from #VCFEast2026 I felt a little bad about neglecting my #IBM5150 restoration project. So I spent some time buying some replacement chips. Hopefully I’ll be able to a diagnostic ROM running to help locate the bad RAM in bank 0.
Saving throw against buying another cheap and likely broken CRT was successful.
I need to finish fixing two other ones already in my possession before I get new-to-me ones. I just sold 3 of them this weekend so I'd rather not have too many again as I will be moving later this year.
Note: I was offered a free working VGA monitor at #vcfEast2026 (thank you @mac84tv) but had to decline for the same reason.
Who has two thumbs and picked up a repairable/working Fluke 27/FM True RMS multimeter from the VCF East free pile?
"Why did you buy that card?"
"This chip on it was fat."
This is a Signetics N8X305N microcontroller, and it has been eating whatever they've been feeding the Motorola 68K, clearly.
Seen on a random ISA card I bought for $5 at #vcfeast2026
I had a great #vcfeast2026. Good seeing some familiar faces, and hanging out and nerding out over Seequa Chameleons with @mcjonestech.
I'm talking a Chameleon home with me to help make Chameleon emulation a reality and build new Chameleon accessories!
