The Universities Superannuation Scheme will cut contribution rates on Monday 1 January.

The changes were voted through at the latest USS Joint Negotiating Committee and will see employee contributions fall to 6.1%, down from 9.8%. For a member earning £45,000 this will mean a monthly saving of £111 after tax.

This is the latest victory in a pension dispute that has seen UCU members take 69 days of strike action since 2018.

USS pension contribution rates to fall on 1st January

The Universities Superannuation Scheme, the UK's largest private pension fund, will cut contribution rates on Monday 1 January.

Got a phone scam today pretending to be my bank's security team - came way closer than I should have to being caught out (but didn't give them the one-time passcode). I called the real bank, they say everything seems fine but have changed login details etc.
To do this kind of scam, you need bank account + phone number data, and I'm wondering if they got it from the #USSpensions hack. Some other people I know have USS pensions, so just posting here as a reminder to be alert.
"Thames [Water] is owned by a number of pension funds and sovereign wealth investors including [...] and the UK lecturers’ [sic] pension fund USS. Last summer they agreed to pump an extra £500m of equity into the business, with a possible £1bn to follow, to shore up the company’s finances." Bother! We bought an asset stripped business with our pensions... https://www.theguardian.com/business/2023/jun/28/contingency-plans-reportedly-being-drawn-up-for-thames-water-collapse #USS #UKHE #USSPensions

Members involved in our HE disputes should receive an email this evening about the formal consultations on pay & conditions and USS.

The email contains higher education committee (HEC) recommendations, negotiators' reports, full details of the proposals and a unique voting link.

HEC has recommended reject on pay & conditions, and to note on USS. All is explained in the email and supporting information.

We encourage all members to have their say.

I’m voting no in the #ucuRISING eBallot.

The #ussPensions proposals are about good as they can be given the legal framework and should be put to a formal vote.

But there’s nothing in the #FourFights proposals to help members now w/cost of living and no clear future gains: R&R.

Here beginneth the 4-day weekend as UK #Academic staff strike over pay and pensions. It'll be all #CatsOfMastodon and #Politics from here on in. #UCURising #UCUStrikesBack #USSpensions
