UCU members at The University of Manchester have started a two week strike, in protest of the excessive 50%-66% deductions for participation in marking boycott. This merges into the national #UCURising #FourFights strike next week (pay, workload, equality, casualisation), which still await an offer from the employers.
This is a local industrial action in welcome week which the University of Manchester senior leadership team should be able to respond to by making a serious offer.

On the substance, I would like a formal vote on the #USS pensions proposal. But on #FourFights, we were offered thin gruel on the non-pay elements of the claim, and nothing at all on pay. So it’s right that Jo Grady’s package of consult and pause was rejected. #ucuRISING

I’m voting no in the #ucuRISING eBallot.
The #ussPensions proposals are about good as they can be given the legal framework and should be put to a formal vote.
But there’s nothing in the #FourFights proposals to help members now w/cost of living and no clear future gains: R&R.
On 24th and 25th November, university staff across the UK will be on #strikes to defend their #USS pension, and fight for better pay, working conditions and equality (#FourFights).
Please do not cross #pickets - nor the #DigitalPicket: i.e. no work-related social media posts (yes, that includes Mastodon!)
