The wooden block on the left in 🧵 18 was machined by my friend Jeffrey Garman at the U of Oregon. Is Jeffrey on the Fediverse?

The tool wall is finished! IKEA BESTÅ, SKÅDIS, UPPDATERA, and a whole lot of 3D modeling and printing.

I bought the furniture last November. I built the furniture in December. I spent the next six months modeling the custom hangers, and today I published all the 3D printed parts to Printables. Done done. Hooray!

And here are some Gridfinity baseplates and driver bit bins for the tool wall. It's hard to tell from the photos, but the baseplates are tilted forward. These bits are from three sets, plus some more I got as singletons. They include a lot I won't use often (ever), but I've also got the ones I need.

These baseplates use the three piece assembly mechanism that I showed upthread in 🧵 10 and 🧵 11.

Anyway, the tricky G2-continuous shape is now on the tool wall. It's a tray for this dual tape dispenser. (It absolutely did not need to be G2-continuous. I just wanted to play.)

The printer won; the USPS delivery arrived today. I got a bunch of Wera hex driver bits in 50 and 89mm lengths. And yes, that bitty boi (sic) on the upper left is 0.9x50mm. How long do you think it will take me to break it?

Anyway, I've been looking for a good set of 50mm hex bits for years; I use M2.5 and M3 socket head screws for everything. The 89mm bits are just gravy.

Now I'm in a race: 3D printer vs. USPS. The tool wall will be "finished" when I get this last holder printed and I receive the last tools for another holder that's already up.

Then it's time for the photo shoot and mass publication of all the custom holders to Printables.

I made a relatively simple thing that brings Fusion 360 to its knees. As in, every change, no matter how trivial, takes over a minute to recompute.

It's the outline shown above, extruded and filleted, then chamfered around the top edge. It ran fine until the chamfer. F360 can't calculate the chamfer directly; I had to do nonsense with a tapered extrusion.

Today is G2 continuity day! I learned this morning that Fusion 360 can do G2 continuous fillets, and I needed to model this anyway...

According to the color map (right image), the fillets are G2 to the bottom, but the small fillet isn't G2 to the sides. And the corners are awful. I don't know what to do about those.

If you think this is going to be another Gridfinity bin, you're close but not right.

SKÅDIS Drill index shelf. Same 3-piece construction as yesterday's Gridfinity base.

Now I've got a template, and I can probably make these 3-piece units pretty quickly.
