A lot of these clichés, though many people lazily use them as #ThoughtTerminating pat phrases, can be used correctly and productively.
"That's not [special separate phenomenon], that's just #capitalism" can be, for example, spoken to curtail the mistaken idea capitalism is fine except in this one case; and instead to focus the energy on the common fight we're all in.

So the phrase can be used to communicate "you're in a broader fight, please recognise it and join us". That's a good use.
Or, yeah, it can be used to terminate the conversation. That's a misuse.
@cwebber I try to have this conversation with non-techie friends sometimes. They'll complain about the internet. And I try to redirect. You don't hate the internet. The internet gives you wikipedia and constant connection with friends and family. You hate that most of your internet usage is mediated through platforms designed to keep your attention and sanitize your communication for advertisers.
