RECOLLECTION

Ordered a bunch of holiday cookies from Take the Cake for an apartment-warming party.

Everything is coming together nicely. I stepped out at some point and looked back up to the windows of my place, glowing up there on the top floor. A wonderful restaurant called Ruth’s Parkside Cafe would fill that large space on the first floor.

The building would fill up with tenants.

I would come to love this apartment.

My last trip to Waffle House was October of 2019 in Colerain Township (in the before-times). I’d been craving their raisin toast with apple butter and scrambled eggs with cheese ever since.

Finally got back to one today in my old stomping grounds of Eastgate. When I arrived there were no customers (more thrilling than concerning). The menu had changed with questionable typography. I didn’t see my usual but was able to order ALL THE THINGS with their All-Star Special™ and a few customizations.

I decided to look up some of their old menus and have decided the new designs above might not be so bad after all. There is solid information hierarchy and lots of respite for the eyes.

But I kinda miss the dense chaos of the old ones…
