Some #counselling thoughts.

Counselling is such a strange job in so many ways. When I’m feeling a bit ill or wobbly, it can be quite easy to fall into worrying that I have no idea what I’m doing. The reality is that, at least for how I work, it’s not really about the *doing* but the *being* (so I guess it makes sense that when the being bit feels wobbly, I could start to doubt myself), and actually the more I try to *do*, often the less I’m in contact and the less helpful, connected, and present I am.

Still thinking about that therapy CPD I signed up to that requested all participants fill in a questionnaire on their sexual habits and orgasm experiences (‘in as much detail as possible’), for undefined research purposes and use by the trainer 🤢

Like, I pulled out and requested (and got, thankfully) a full refund, but I still feel really fucking gross that that was a thing and it’s presumably still happening. The course material on queer identities was WAY off as well.

It makes me feel quite angry and upset and kind of powerless just thinking about it. It wasn’t just deeply unnecessarily intrusive, not knowing how the data would’ve been used also meant potentially outing me to unknown strangers as trans, queer, polyam, etc. If I’d filled it in, and responded honestly, it would’ve been extremely obvious to the trainers that it was my questionnaire entry, even though we were ‘allowed’ to be anonymous.
