University of Windsor's student newspaper makes a comeback
The University of Windsor's student newspaper — The Lance — is making a comeback after being dormant for several years.

I've been doing some research on the history of my old student radio station #CJAM. I've been going through old issues of my campus' newspaper #TheLance. I worked at both in the 1980s. While researching the history of CJAM I encountered this series of classified ads a guy named Peter B. would run most weeks in our paper for 2 years running.

At our student newspaper we offered free classified ads. You came up to the office, dropped your ad copy in a little box and if we had space we'd run it. This guy Peter B. during the 1988-1989 school year would run that first ad. He just had to find "Jennifer". The next year he changed tactics. Possibly she didn't remember working as a postal scab? Maybe he felt he was coming on too strong with "I love you". So he toned it down a bit by just letting her know, and everyone else, he knew her plate number and, of course, contact him. Because important. I'm given to understand at the end of the 1989 school year he came up to our offices with an envelope stuffed with cash and handed it over insisting we then run the second ad the following year.

Our editor tried to impress on him the ads were free but you just had to drop off your ad each week. He was like "no, let me pay you to always run this ad". So the editor took the money and that paid for our end of the year bbq/beer bash and awards ceremony. (Where I won the "crown of thorns beer lugger award" but that's a whole other story.)

Apparently the guy, besides being in love with Jennifer, seemed to believe his god had a very, very important message for her (which might have just been "stop staying the hell away from Peter and have his babies.")

I used to write these weird recruitment ads for our school paper back when I was arts editor. I realized the best writers we had weren't out of the English department but were Math majors, Geography majors, Science majors, Human Kinetics majors, etc. What everyone there had in common was they were really disillusioned with their field of study and needed a place where they could write and find themselves.

Another Christmas themed article I did for my university paper in the late 1980s.
