A dramatic illustration of the extreme drought we have been experiencing in south central Texas for two years now: I was able to walk across the Guadalupe River at Guadalupe River State Park today without getting my feet wet. 😞

A week later, 09/03/2023, baby gators were still under this fallen tree near Bird Box #18. The water there was noticeably lower. I found the mom gator on the other side of the tree. The babies changed position through the day-in the same branches at last week in the morning, then on the other side of the tree in the afternoon. I was at least 15 yards away, using lots of zoom. #Alligator #Archosaurs #Wildlife #TexasDrought
On 08/27/2023, at BBSP the pod of baby gators was under this fallen tree near Bird Box #18; about 70 yards West from where I'd found a pod the week before, 20 yards in front of where 1 of the alligator nests had been this summer. I couldn't not find their mother, but she could have been submerged, or hidden by plant cover. Pics show how I was at least 15 yards away, using lots of zoom. #Alligator #Archosaurs #Wildlife #texasdrought

I miss fairy tales. Sure, dragons and unicorns don't really exist, but it is pleasant to think of mythical, magical things--such as water falling from the sky.
