My favourite characters from Sombulus by @delphina2k 🥺 (I may have gone a little overboard with sparkle power... But if not now THEN WHEN ✨)

It's such a good webcomic, you can read it here! http://sombulus.com/

[Image: digital painting of two characters - one with short dark hair, glasses and bat-like wings, the other with short platinum hair, blue eyes and bird wings in silver armor both with a hand outstretched. The character with bat wings has strands of magically essence unravelling around his arm, The character with bird wings appears to be casting a spell that manifests as points of light connected into a geometric configuration. Lots of sparkles and feathers everywhere. Text at bottom left reads "Tenge & Argus"]Believe it or not, my brain is actually not 100% Star Ocean 2, though it may seem like it lately. I recently finished rereading Books 1-3 of Sombulus, one of my favourite webcomics. If you love multi-levels of epic multi-world fantasy plotting with a healthy dose of inane humour, plus just really fun, diverse and well-written characters who have fantastic dialogue and interactions, it is very much all those things! Also to quote the creator: “[...] the characters are big gay idiots”, hahaha. I’m always so impressed by how much Delphina is able to juggle and pull off throughout Sombulus. It’s really difficult to do! The execution of story and characters and comics panelling seriously blows my mind! It’s just such a wonderful ride seeing this labour of love evolve and grow. All the characters are so lovingly created, but I must say Argus and Tenge are my favourites. (For the record I also particularly love Yanell and Rana!) Argus (the one with bird-like wings) is an avatar of god, he loves gardening and his divine power of Holy Mending lets him fix phones! I am a big fan of his hair and I really love drawing it. Tenge (the one with bat-like wings) is a genius at magic who has high anxiety and gets super stressed out and can split himself into multiple versions of himself for incredible multitasking! Except all the copies of him are also high anxiety and super stressed out as well. Too relatable! Also they both have hilarious family members. I loved them both individually, so when their paths finally crossed in the story and it started shaping up to spoiler, I was delighted. They’re super awesome and make me laugh and aww very much. I’m excited to see what their future holds!Magic strand thingies are hard to draw. For colouring, I tried a brush I haven’t really used before in Affinity Photo - large textured gouache. I really like it! It feels like what I’ve been trying to find for digital painting for a while. I may use it for more illustrations in the future!WIPs and ink below the cut![READ-MORE][image: set of three WIP images of the illustration.
