🇺🇸 "Law that has allowed U.S. intelligence agencies to collect... overseas communications without needing search warrants is set to expire"

Here is a completely wild thought: instead of changing or renewing it, how about the #USA stops ignoring people's basic rights worldwide? 🤪

With US spy laws set to expire, lawmakers are split over protecting Americans from warrantless surveillance | TechCrunch

Some lawmakers are calling for widespread reforms following years of surveillance scandals and abuses across successive U.S. administrations. But even if the spy law known as Section 702 expires in April, the government's spy powers will not automatically lapse.

Hacker attack on Booking.com: personal data of some users stolen.

Trouble for Booking.com and its users. A hacking attack has hit the online agency for booking accommodations. The platform itself confirmed this, having informed a portion of its users via email. “At Booking.com, we are committed to ensuring the security and protection of our guests’ data. In that spirit, we are writing to inform you that unauthorized third parties may have been able to access some information related to your reservation,” the message reads. The agency adds that stolen data may include names, email addresses, addresses, phone numbers, and “any information you may have shared with the property.”

So far, it appears that users’ payment data has been spared. However, a person contacted by TechCrunch’s specialist website confirmed receiving a phishing message via WhatsApp two weeks ago that included “reservation details and personal information.” A spokesperson for Booking.com, speaking to the Guardian, reassured the platform’s customers: “No access was gained to financial information.” The Amsterdam-based company then informed its users that it had changed the PIN codes for reservations already made and involved in the attack.

Booking.com has, however, not disclosed how many people were actually affected by the hacking attack. A number that risks being high, considering that the company has on its list more than 30 million accommodation facilities worldwide.
