I came across #Upscrolled as an alternative to Facebook/Instagram.

I’m not stoked about the prospect of having another social-esque platform account though 😅 They have some decent answers to the questions of building on open protocols and decentralisation (namely “not yet but we plan to” and “the user experience is better”). They also came through the #TechForPalestine accelerator and haven’t taken VC money, etc.

I’m all for supporting alternatives to Meta’s enshittified platforms is a good thing.

That being said, I still haven’t gotten around to trying #Pixelfed, which seems like it would be a better platform for photo/video sharing given its open source and decentralised.

Does anyone have thoughts on the difference between the two?

It looks like #Bitchat might be gathering some traction in Gaza?

As a reminder, bitchat is a mesh network using your phone's bluetooth. So even without internet, you could have private messages sent from phone to phones.

Gaza having such a high population density and because Israel is known to have penetrated WhatsApp, this might be a good off-the-grid solution
