Due to some day-job scheduling issues, I hadn't painted for almost a week.

Yesterday night, I finally re-ignited the digital display and re-approached the subject matter. But I felt completely lost — even though I had been painting the array of colors for hundreds of days before.

My mind simply could not organize the colors into something paintable! There were just too many colors to choose from, in too many locations!

But after an hour or so, I rationalized beginning somewhere — but it was difficult. I felt I had lost my capacity to think and make decisions. There were just too many choices, too much work ahead, and I felt overwhelmed with the stimuli — oranges, greens, blues, reds, yellows, blacks, violets, browns, whites, cyans, and so on....

Eventually, I chose a small partition in which to work, and began the hopelessly absurd task of painting one square, then another.

After a couple of hours, my mind began to organize the colors effectively.

All the colors and their positions ultimately made some paintable sense, were re-organized into mixable units, and I was back up to speed, faster than ever.

I am reminded of the expression, "an object at rest tends to stay at rest," and that getting started is always most difficult. But once in motion, the object tends to stay in motion and working becomes easier, and simpler.
