@profdc9 hey! Former? Are you still in the area? Could be a good time to return.

Tadd KA2DEW has been a very generous Elmer to me since I popped into a chat room he was in asking about #meshtastic and next thing you know he's sticking a Kenwood 70cm rig in my hand & recruiting me to build a #TARPN node for #NCPacket. He's been really awesome and teaching me so much.

I don't think I met Carl yet. But I've only been to 2 club gatherings so far. Just getting back into it.

#introduction bonus round to help find similar spirits.

* I just learned #soldering last week and my first project worked as intended! For my #TARPN node.
* I also enjoy #3Dprinting and want to learn to design functional objects to support my hobbies.
* My next #amateurRadio project is setting up a mobile rig in my tiny #keiTruck. Yaesu FTM500DR
* Lately I've been trying to coordinate #meshtastic in my QTH. I usually carry a node in my pocket wherever I go.
* I want to design & build for #IoT

Thanks for welcoming as a guest onto mastodon.radio, @W0AMT. By way of #introduction

* Call me Magnus! The FCC doesn't but everyone else does.
* I earned my Technician privileges before I had the time or $$ to do much with it. So I'm basically a "baby ham" in 2024.
* Giddy about projects / experiments to make our hobby more relevant & accessible to young & disadvantaged folks.

Currently working on a #TARPN node for #NCPacket network. RARS member. QTH Raleigh, North Carolina. 73!

@W1CDN @wz0c not much #TARPN content here. Sorry to resurrect an ancient thread, but have you tried it yet? I’m luck enough to live 70cm simplex range from KA2DEW so I’m building my own node now. #NCPacket

Please welcome Steve @n8gnj to Mastodon.radio ! He is the editor of Zero Retries, a newsletter about technology innovation in amateur radio.

@wz0c I've looked at #TARPN and would love to try it. NTS is unfamiliar.

@wz0c @g0dub Okay, I've done some reading.

The best entry point seems to be #AREDN Services Overview (https://arednmesh.readthedocs.io/en/latest/arednServicesGuide/services_overview.html) and subsequent pages, not the main website. Follow up with Networking Overview (https://arednmesh.readthedocs.io/en/latest/arednNetworkDesign/networking_overview.html).

The #TARPN site has great stuff about net development. They have an active but hidden email list at https://groups.io/g/tarpn/.

Getting back to read more about #TARPN. I really like the "no automated traffic from other networks" ideal by #NCPACKET, _except_ that I think certain telemetry should be able to flow from the ham network to the Internet for purposes of status, discoverability, and promotion. http://ncpacket.net/north_carolina_packet_radio_network.html #hamradio #meshnetwork

@wz0c oops, #TARPN, not TAPR.

I've been working on a off-the-grid social network using ham radio. We're linking house to house and stand separate from Internet.
