In the bookstore ‘The Room of Scylla’ (Curcio Editore), Vincenzo Galluzzo’s third novel.

“The Room of Scilla” (Curcio Editore) by television author, artist, and writer Vincenzo Galluzzo is arriving in bookstores, a love novel set across forty years, between 1957 and 1997, between Catania, Milan, and Taormina. The story begins in the eastern capital shortly before the Merlin Law came into effect, where a woman of striking beauty, known as Scilla Cariddi, practiced ‘the profession,’ capable of attracting clients of the highest rank into her boudoir – the Room of Scilla, indeed – and even bringing back from America those who had emigrated solely to spend one night of passion with her.

Maddalena, the protagonist of the novel,
Maddalena Torrisi, her real name, lived on the top floor of the building that housed the brothel with two squatters, a trusted maid, and a gay man, but behind the alluring appearances, she hid a heart. That beat for a representative of the Catania ‘upper class’; the director of a private school who would never have the courage to leave his wife and children for a prostitute. Just when nothing seemed able to change, Scilla discovers that she is pregnant with the man she loves and decides to abandon Sicily without telling him anything.

Twenty-year time jump
Now the former prostitute lived in luxury in Milan, with a daughter named Beatrice, completely unaware of her mother’s past and convinced that the wealth in which she had grown up came from an inheritance. It was the sudden death of Scilla that brought her back to Sicily, revealing to her, in addition to the truth about her origins which had always been kept from her, also the great love. Precisely in the Room of Scilla. With this novel, Vincenzo Galluzzo returns to narrative after ‘Malauna’ and ‘La notte di mezzagosto,’ both published by A & B Editrice.
