Not a lot of options with that writing system. Despite being used for only one (maybe 2) languages, it's been called the most sophisticated, best writing system in the world by some linguists.

Of course, it was designed along linguistic principles, so maybe it just plays to our biases.

But it *is* pretty awesome! 😍

#WTAF #Carus: #syllabic #slurs

Carus’ #vocal #scores almost never use the required syllabic slurs. This might be a house style, but my semi-substantiated theory is that they put an insufficiently educated #engraver on these scores who only knows how to engrave for piano, not for vocals.

Doing it inconsistently (e.g. here two of four in a single stave in a single system) makes you not look better, anyway.

This post ( https://canada.masto.host/@canadaehx/109569071157175759 ) mentions the sea goddess #Sedna. I first became aware of her from Heather Dale: https://youtu.be/zOYM3NKz9Nc

At some point, I need to do a research dive to find out more about those beliefs/stories, because I really want to learn more.

Also, I want to point out #Inuktitut uses a ✨really✨ cool #syllabic script ( https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inuktitut_syllabics ) called #ᖃᓂᐅᔮᖅᐸᐃᑦ / #qaniujaaqpait. It also has variations to write other Canadian langs: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_Aboriginal_syllabics

According to traditional Inuit beliefs, this celebrates the sea goddess Sedna & the transferring of spirits for good luck in the new year. #Inuit #Indigenous #Arctic #NewYear #Canada #History #Histodon #Histodons 📸Virtual Museum

Something I find interesting in #syllabic or #pseudosyllabic writing systems is the choice to include or omit spacing between words
In #Japanese (syllabic plus #logographic as far as kanji go, trad no spacing, casual w spaces), Sanskrit (syllabic, no spaces) and Hindi (pseudosyllabic as unlike Sanskrit you can pile on the symbols on each other to vary the sounds, with redundant variations, spaces used) you see different spacing choices between words, and in different contexts formal vs informal

I've been drawn the last year or so to learning about Canadian Aboriginal Syllabics. They're used to write various languages including Cree, Ojibwe, Inuktitut... And I find them fascinating and captivating. 😍
